No matter what area of the home your tile is located, kitchen, bathroom, back splash or floor, you’ve probably noticed that the grout in between your tiles has become greasy or perhaps even changed color. Grout is more difficult to clean than it’s tile counterpart, because it’s usually light in color, and it is made from porous materials, making it a stain magnet. We usually see tile and grout in the higher traffic areas of our home as well, meaning it’s going to be seeing a lot of dirt, grime, grease, and spills. You can have cleaner looking grout if you just follow a few tips from the professionals.

  1. Start simple.

When cleaning grout, always start with the least harsh cleaning method possible, work your way up from there. As an example, start with water and a stiff bristle brush, if this doesn’t work, move on to baking soda and vinegar, if you’re still not looking clean move to bleach or grout cleaner.

  2. Know your stain.

Understanding how your tile got dirty in the first place will help you to choose your best method of stain removal. If you know your stain came from grease, choose a mild degreaser first before giving it a once over. Should your stain be mildew, you may want to move right into the bleach or baking soda and vinegar method. Know your stain, and remove a stain as soon as you can, letting it sit will only make it worse.

  3. Seal the Deal

If you know your grout is going to be in a high traffic area, or you have chosen a very light shade of grout for your home, a grout sealer may be worth the investment. You can apply once a year, and this will protect your grout from many different types of stains and keep it looking cleaner longer.

  4. Make your grout a weekly chore.

Grout often gets forgotten during the weekly house cleaning. Make wiping it down with vinegar or grout cleaner a weekly chore, this will keep it maintained and fresh looking. You can also wipe your grout with alcohol in moist areas to prevent the growth of mold and mildew.

  5. Don’t Give Up.

If your grout is stained and dirty, and no cleaners or grout tools are working, don’t give up, work that stain as best you can, and consider hiring a professional cleaner who has access to heavy duty steam equipment to come in and really blast away all the dirt and grime for you, so that you can start fresh.

SATISFACTION
"WOW, WOW, WOW. I don't know what else to say. With two dogs and a 2 year old running around the house, our carpets and furniture need cleaning on a regular basis. It's nice to know that all I need to do is pick up the phone and I have no more worries. In this day and age, it is a very pleasant surprise to come across a company who will do what they say they will do when they say they will do it and with very little supervision. Kudos to Kent Clean!!! Thanks Larry!"
