5 Tips for Keeping Your Vinyl Flooring in Good Condition

Jul 7, 2021

Vinyl is a great, inexpensive flooring material. They look good and are easy to install. For those looking for stylish flooring material that doesn’t require a lot of maintenance, vinyl is a good choice for you. However, although vinyl is easy to maintain, there are still some things you can do to ensure that your floors remain in good condition. Take a look at these five tips:

Tip #1: Use a Doormat

Prevent stains and debris from greeting your floors by having a doormat. Over time, dirt and chemicals can cause your vinyl floors to deteriorate. Chemicals from the asphalt can stick to your shoes and eventually your floors. A doormat will give you and your guests the place to wipe off your feet before entering your home and remove harmful debris from your shoes.

Tip #2: Sweep Frequently

Sweeping your vinyl floors frequently will help prevent dirt buildup. Get the dirt off your floors before it gets into your vinyl sheets and further stains it. The sooner you remove debris, the longer your vinyl flooring will last. Get in the habit of quickly running a soft broom across your vinyl floors every evening,

Tip #3: Use the Right Cleaner

The right cleaner can make all the difference in the longevity of your vinyl floors. Clean your vinyl floors with a cleaner made specifically for no-wax floors. If you have older vinyl floors that require waxing, you can clean them by using warm water and detergent. Rub your vinyl floors just enough to loosen the dirt. Lastly, rinse with clean, cool water.

Tip #4: Use Low-Impact Cleaning Techniques

Avoid blasting away dirt with heavy-duty cleaners. Instead, wash your vinyl floorings using the mildest possible method. Those methods include sweeping or vacuuming every evening and wiping up spills right away. If there’s a stain that a broom or vacuum cannot resolve, gently clean it using a dampened mop and warm water.

Tip #5: Don’t Wax Them

Newer vinyl flooring has a clear polyurethane coating that makes it shine. IF you add a layer of wax to this coating, it will leave behind a mess that you will have to strip off. If you want to restore the shine of your no-wax vinyl flooring, you can use polish or sealant that is specifically designed for no-wax flooring.

"WOW, WOW, WOW. I don't know what else to say. With two dogs and a 2 year old running around the house, our carpets and furniture need cleaning on a regular basis. It's nice to know that all I need to do is pick up the phone and I have no more worries. In this day and age, it is a very pleasant surprise to come across a company who will do what they say they will do when they say they will do it and with very little supervision. Kudos to Kent Clean!!! Thanks Larry!"
