Do’s & Don’ts of Power Washing

May 17, 2016

power washer

As a former manager that spent hours writing and rolling out health & safety training, I am going to be that boring person that advises you to take the correct safety precautions when operating machinery.

I’m sorry, but it’s in your best interest to wear safety glasses and gloves. On top of that you shouldn’t be using your pressure washer to clean your pets or your children. Don’t wash with hot water and make sure you check all your fill levels before powering your machine up, it’s dangerous to do this while your machine is operating. Don’t use bleach in your machine, not only can it damage your machine but it could cause someone around you harm if somehow they get caught up in the spray. It should go without saying that you should never aim your pressure washer nozzle at a person, or an animal.

I don’t want to ruin all of your fun, but unless you want a wet home it is important that I tell you that spraying brick or stuccoed walls straight on can result in it. Water will always find any crack and crevice and could cause internal damage to the structure, so when dealing with masonry walls and the like, you should always spray side on- the same goes for wood siding, because the pressure of that water can damage it. Don’t spray glass or windows, the pressure of the water will very likely cause them to shatter. Oh, and always work from top to bottom.

I can hear you thinking, so what can I pressure wash?

You can still pressure wash your house, you just have to make sure you’re doing it side on and maybe start with a test area to ensure you aren’t causing it any damage. If you’re expecting dramatic results, though, you might be disappointed because unless your machine is an industrial one it doesn’t have the power required to do the job properly.

You can also use a pressure washer to clean out your trash cans, there is nothing worse than the escapees of your rubbish being left stuck to the bottom of the bin. They hang there and rot creating the most horrific smell when you lift the lid, but thanks to your awesome pressure washer you can prevent that from being a problem again.

There is no joy greater than firing up your pressure washer to spray down your driveway, the sidewalk, your boat and vehicles.

Before you go out and buy one, though, it would be a good idea to rent one so that you can make an informed purchase. While you can get a variety of machines for a decent price, it is not the kind of thing you want to have buyer’s remorse on. Renting a machine will give you a better idea of exactly what you want from your pressure washer.

SATISFACTION
"WOW, WOW, WOW. I don't know what else to say. With two dogs and a 2 year old running around the house, our carpets and furniture need cleaning on a regular basis. It's nice to know that all I need to do is pick up the phone and I have no more worries. In this day and age, it is a very pleasant surprise to come across a company who will do what they say they will do when they say they will do it and with very little supervision. Kudos to Kent Clean!!! Thanks Larry!"
